After years of discussion, HBO officially greenlit a Deadwood movie last July. The revered show was abruptly canceled back in 2006, but creator David Milch has long brought up the idea of a film continuation in place of a fourth season. Now, Deadline reports that the Deadwood revival will come sometime this spring after it started filming in November.

The original three seasons of the show garnered HBO an impressive eight Emmy wins along with 28 nominations. The currently untitled Deadwood movie is set to take place 10 years after the end of the third season.

HBO also revealed that almost the entire cast is returning, including Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, Molly Parker, and Brad Dourif. David Milch wrote the screenplay for the project, while series regular Daniel Minahan will serve as its director.

Entertainment Weekly revealed a first look at the movie back in December 2018, offering fans a glimpse at what McShane's Al Swearengen and Olyphant's Seth Bullock were looking like in the wild west's future. Deadwood executive producer Carolyn Strauss said that that the film would run around two hours long.
