CNN Films, HBO Max, and Focus Features announced on Saturday that a Anthony Bourdain documentary is in the works. Oscar-winning Won't You Be My Neighbor? filmmaker Morgan Neville will direct the movie, which will feature previously unreleased footage of the beloved Parts Unknown host. The documentary is expected to hit theaters worldwide before coming to HBO Max and CNN later down the line, the Hollywood Reporter notes.

Parts Unknown won 12 Emmys in its five-year run. On June 8, 2018, Bourdain was found dead in his hotel room on location in France while shooting an episode. The final season of Parts Unknown aired September 2018 and featured tributes from those closest to him.

"Anthony Bourdain did more to help us understand each other than just about anyone in the history of television," Neville said of the project. "He connected with people not in spite of his flaws, but because of them. To have the opportunity to tell his story is humbling. CNN is in the DNA of Tony’s work, and the perfect partners in this journey. I’m thrilled to be re-teaming with Focus Features after our journey on Won’t You Be My Neighbor?. I am also happy that HBO Max will make sure Tony’s audience only continues to grow."

It is not clear when the currently untitled documentary is expected to debut.
