Christian Bale might be making his way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Thor: Love and Thunder.
No word on who Bale might play in the fourth film in the franchise, but Collider reports that discussions between Bale and Marvel Studios have been ongoing. It's far from a confirmation, but if Bale does join the cast he'll be in good company. The Taika Waititi-directed and -written film, a follow-up to 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, already boasts the return of Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tessa Thompson.
The move would mark the 45-year-old Bale's first superhero film since he wrapped Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy with The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. The Oscar/Golden Globe-winner has just come off appearances in Ford v Ferrari in 2019, and 2018's Vice, in which he portrayed former vice president Dick Cheney. Marvel has yet to comment on the rumors of him joining the film, which is set to hit theaters Nov. 5, 2021.
Marvel fans on Twitter quickly came to the conclusion that Bale, a master of physical transformation, needs to play Beta Ray Bill.
Before the arrival of the fourth Thor, Marvel is giving Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow her long-overdue solo film on May 1. Shortly after, fans will be introduced to a whole slew of new MCU characters with The Eternals on Nov. 6. Waititi, who just released his WWII satire Jojo Rabbit, will return to theaters this year as a director with the sports comedy Next Goal Wins, while he will also have a supporting role in Free Guy.
