The First Trailer for DC's 'Blue Beetle' Has Arrived

The first trailer for DC’s 'Blue Beetle' has arrived, and it offers an action-packed glimpse of Xolo Maridueña as the titular superhero.

The action-packed first trailer for DC’s Blue Beetle has arrived.

In our biggest look at the superhero film yet, we get a glimpse at what to expect from Jaime Reyes as he becomes Blue Beetle through the use of an alien scarab. There’s also a brief reference to Batman near the end of the trailer, with one character referring to him as a “fascist.” The film, which was originally intended to be a HBO Max release before it was changed to a theatrical one, will be notable as it marks DC’s first major Latino superhero.

Xolo Maridueña stars as Reyes and the titular Blue Beetle, alongside Bruna Marquezine, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Trujillo, and Susan Sarandon as the main villain, Victoria Kord. What We Do in the Shadows standout Harvey Guillén is also part of the cast in an undisclosed role.

The film went into production before the reshaping of DC’s upcoming slate of superhero movies by James Gunn and Peter Safran, much like the recently released Shazam! Fury of the Gods. There’s expected to be some major shakeups to the lineup shortly, but not before The Flash lands in theaters on June 16, followed by Blue Beetle on August 18, and Aquaman and the lost Kingdom on December 25.

It remains to be seen how the remaining slate will fare at the box office, considering the recent disappointment of the Shazam! sequel, which has so made just$119 million worldwide. Outside of the connected universe of films, there’s also a series of one-off projects on the way, including the highly-anticipated Joker: Folie à Deux starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.
