Kieran Culkin Reflects on His First ‘SNL’ Appearance From 30 Years Ago in Monologue

Kieran made his 'SNL' comeback 30 years after he appeared on his brother’s episode, now finally with his own hosting powers as he kicked off with its monologue.

Kieran Culkin isn’t the first Culkin to host Saturday Night Live. And he surely isn’t the youngest. His brother Macaulay was just 11 years old when he did it.

But that didn’t stop Kieran from making his SNL comeback 30 years after he appeared on his brother’s episode. Now, he’s got the hosting powers himself, and he delievered a pretty hilarious monologue in the process.

The 39-year-old actor, who is currently a stand-out as Roman Roy in the third season of HBO’s Succession, opened the show with a monologue touching on how honored he is to host SNL. He also showed the clip of his SNL appearance from 30 years ago.

“I wanted to show that clip for two reasons: one, someone from the cast could pick me up again from the end of the show. And two, I have waited 30 years to be back on this stage and say, ‘We got a great show for you tonight!’” he said.

Culkin previously appeared on a recent episode of the Tonight Show to chat about his SNL gig, telling Jimmy Fallon about the first time he stepped on the set. As he recalls, his mother told former cast member Kevin Nealon that he was Culkin’s favorite, only for Culkin to correct her and explain—right in front of the comedian—that Dana Carvey was his favorite cast member.

“I remember actually seeing him take this little tiny dagger and go, ‘Well, still very nice to meet you,’” Culkin shared.

SNL will also see performances from Ed Sheeran following the release of his new album =. Check out his monologue above.
