Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Pull Off Elaborate April Fools Day Show Switch

Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel pulled off one of the more elaborate celebrity pranks on Friday, swapping hosting duties on each others’ late night programs.

Television’s favorite Jimmys put the ratings battles behind them to join forces for an elaborate April Fools Day prank last night.

Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel pulled off one of the more elaborate celebrity pranks on Friday, swapping hosting duties on each others’ late night programs, interviewing each others’ family members, and ultimately confusing their unsuspecting audiences.

With Kimmel manning The Tonight Show on NBC and Fallon taking charge of Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC, guests like Hugh Jackman, Bridget Everett, Justin Timberlake, and Kimmel’s Aunt Chippy appeared alongside The Red Hot Chili Peppers. When Fallon appeared at Kimmel’s show, he appropriately introduced himself as Jimmy.

“Settle down, you’re going to offend the other Jimmy,” Fallon said.

During his monologue, Fallon joked about the “late night multiverse,” explaining that the prank was being planned for four years behind the scenes. On the set of the Tonight Show, Kimmel alluded to it being reminiscent of “freaky Friday,” and asked the crowd if they were disappointed in the Jimmy they were presented with.

“This is wild, bud,” Fallon said during a video call with his partner in crime. “It’s been an amazing experience, I can’t believe that we did this, we pulled it off. I really can’t believe it… Jimmy, this is magical. I love it. I love talking to you.”

Along with some skits of Fallon and Kimmel surprising unsuspecting fans during photo ops, the shows’ guests were just as unpredictable. Timberlake ended up playing Matt Damon—Kimmel’s sworn TV nemesis—and pulled up to set with a Red Sox jersey and middle part. During the interview, Fallon quizzed Timberlake on all things Damon—including his favorite spots in Boston and the names of every Jason Bourne film.

Instead of seeing the totally real films Bourne, Bourne Again, or Bourne Another Time, check out the night’s funniest clips above.
