George Floyd’s family is speaking out after comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who previously made an insensitive joke about Floyd, made another controversial remark during The Roast of Kevin Hart.

According to TMZ on Monday (May 11), a spokesperson for The Gianna & George Floyd Foundation said the joke was “sad for the culture.”

During the roast, Hinchcliffe said: “The Black community is so proud of you… right now George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he can't breathe."

TMZ claims Floyd’s family and friends feel Kevin Hart should have told Tony Hinchcliffe to avoid the topic altogether, adding that they are baffled and disgusted by what they describe as Tony’s apparent obsession with making George Floyd jokes.

"We are trying to rebuild things for our community and make things better in our community,” the foundation told TMZ. “Let's try to be a little bit more positive and not sit up there doing colon inspections by white comedians."

Hinchcliffe also drew backlash online after making multiple jokes about Sheryl Underwood’s late husband during the roast. While the roast embraced the platform’s usual anything-goes format, many viewers felt the jokes crossed a line by targeting a personal tragedy Underwood has openly discussed for years.

Back in 2024, During the roast of Tom Brady roast, Hinchcliffe, said that that Rob Gronkowski "looked like the final boss in George Floyd the video game."

In 2025, Lil Yachty faced backlash after previewing an unreleased song during Plaqueboymax’s livestream that included a controversial George Floyd reference.
