Ice Cube Hopes to Release 'Last Friday' on the Original Film's 25th Anniversary

Ice Cube is looking to put out the last installment in the Friday series sometime next year.

The actor and rapper revealed his plans for the Friday sequel on an episode of ESPN's The Jump. Cube shared that he wants the movie to drop in time for the original film's 25th anniversary: April 26, 2020.

"We are pushing for it, we finished the script, we are getting notes from the studio and it's going back and forth," Cube said. "Get into pre-production and start hiring. It would be nice for this to come out on the 25th anniversary."

Cube's admission that there's a script and a deadline in mind came just days after he teased fans on Twitter about a possible sequel.

Last June, Mike Epps appeared to share set photos from the upcoming movie reportedly titled Last Friday. Epps plays Day-Day in the second and third Friday movies, filling the hole left by Chris Tucker's choice not to appear in further sequels.

Tucker has waffled about reprising his role as Smokey for the final film. He said back in 2016 that he had no interest in rejoining the cast, but recently shared that he'd join the cast if it felt appropriate.

“If it comes together right, I’m definitely gonna look at it and see if it works," he told the hosts of ESPN's The Plug. "‘Cause I never say never; I definitely want to check it out. If it works, it’s a possibility.”
