'Game of Thrones' Was Comcast’s Most-Streamed Show This Year Despite No New Episodes

'Thrones' didn't need new episodes to come out on top.

It's official: Game of Thrones is the Adele of big-budget cable fantasy. According to data shared by Comcast, the show pulled a 21 in 2018, managing to be the most-streamed show on their on-demand service despite releasing no new episodes.

It's been a solid 16 months since we last saw Jon Snow & Co., but that didn't stop Comcast's 22 million subscribers from binging the available seasons. The company didn't share exact numbers, but USA Today reports that Thrones was out front.

"The fact that that show is still ranked No. 1 across the board when it wasn’t even current is pretty incredible. It shows just how large of a following that show has [and] how new people are still discovering it,” Comcast VP of Programming Brynn Lev said.

The rest of the top five were all current shows across a range of networks. NBC's weeper This Is Us, 50 Cent's Starz drama Power, Fox's gonzo EMS show 9-1-1, and ABC's goofy medical procedural The Good Doctor rounded out the top of the chart.

Thrones came in first nationally. On the local level, however, there was room for newer programs to win out. Comcast shared that Power beat Thrones in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.

And Thrones isn't the only show from the past that did well on Comcast's streaming service. Despite the fact that it aired its final episode over a decade ago, The Sopranos remained popular for their on-demand subscribers. It was the 11th most-streamed title nationally, ahead of still-running series like Grey's Anatomy and Chicago PD.
