Fans of juvenilia and bullets, rejoice! Disney revealed that they plan to keep Deadpool R-rated even after they absorb him into the wider Marvel universe. The Merc with a Mouth will be just as mouthy in coming iterations of Deadpool, even after the experiments with cleaner recuts of the earlier Deadpool films.

The word came down about Ryan Reynolds' gleefully vulgar passion project during a conference call with Disney's investors, according to Variety. When the topic of Deadpool came up, Chairman and CEO Bob Iger said he saw no reason to mess with the formula.

“We will continue in that business,” Iger said, before adding that "there’s certainly popularity” for R-rated superhero releases.

Iger did note that they will make a clearly separate space for the more crass superhero offerings. Disney doesn't want to get the muck of Deadpool or serious X-Men fare on the pristine image of its animated films. Iger said that they plan on “carefully branding [R-rated films]…so we’re not in any way confusing the consumer.”

Deadpool himself is open to a new direction for the character, though presumably not one that has him dropping fricks and shoots. Ryan Reynolds said that he wants to take the character somewhere new to avoid the superhero's shtick becoming stagnant.

While attending the premiere of a recut Deadpool 2 in China, Reynolds said that the third film is “looking to go in a completely different direction.”

"Often, they reboot or change a character maybe like four movies too late,” he added.
