Netflix has announced a global premiere date for The One Piece, the highly anticipated new take on the iconic manga.
On Wednesday (June 24), during the Annecy Film Festival, the streaming giant confirmed that the series will debut globally in February 2027, beginning at the start of the East Blue saga and running separately from the long-airing anime adaptation, according to Variety.
The new project will be directed by Masashi Koizuka and star Mayumi Tanaka as Luffy in the Japanese-language track.
“As we first sat down with the project, we knew that the story was emotional and inspiring. But we wanted to go into it as a naval action-adventure story. It’s a story of a boy wanting to be King of the Pirates, so we figured that was the most appropriate place to start," Koizuka said, per the magazine. “That means the ocean waters need to be awe-inspiring. The oceans as Luffy sees them are literally uncharted waters full of surprises and excitement. We wanted to bring that awe and scale to life.”
Beyond The One Piece, Netflix also showcased several high-profile projects, including Brad Bird's Ray Gunn, a futuristic sci-fi noir inspired by Chinatown and starring Scarlett Johansson and Sam Rockwell, arriving Dec. 18.
The streamer also revealed Ghostbusters: Night Shift, a young adult supernatural series from Sony Pictures Animation, plus Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory, Alley Cats, and Steps.
Netflix also said more than 130 million members watch animated titles monthly, while anime programming surpassed 1.5 billion views in 2025.
