Despite being worth billions of dollars on paper, MrBeast says he’s borrowing money from his mom to pay for his wedding.

Last month, a tweet from Dexerto claimed that the popular YouTuber is “the only billionaire under 30 to not have inherited his wealth.” A community note on the tweet corrected the assertion, pointing out that 28-year-old Alexandr Wang, CEO of Scale AI, is a self-made billionaire.

MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, responded to a tweet on Monday (June 2), writing, “I personally have very little money because I reinvest everything (I think this year we’ll spend around a quarter of a billion on content). Ironically i’m actually borrowing $ from my mom to pay for my upcoming wedding lol.

“But sure, on paper the businesses I own are worth a lot,” the 27-year-old added.

Donaldson and Thea Booysen became engaged on Christmas Day 2024.

According to Business Insider, Donaldson said his company, Beast Industries, made just under $500 million in total last year. However, the company is forecasting its revenue to reach $899 million in 2025.

During an appearance on the Diary of a CEO podcast, Donaldson said his Beast Games series for Amazon's Prime Video, which has been renewed for a second and third season, “lost tens of millions of dollars."

"For me, it was about making season one as good as possible. I can't let the YouTube community down because creators don't have a good rep when it comes to doing stuff on streaming platforms," he said, per Business Insider. "If I fail, it's over; no streaming platform is ever gonna touch a YouTuber ever again.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Donaldson confirmed he has “less than a million dollars” in his bank account.
