Martin Short’s daughter, Katherine, has reportedly died by suicide.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that the 42-year-old died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A representative for Short shared a statement with USA Today, reading, "It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time."
"Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world," the statement continued.
LAPD responded to the incident at her Hollywood Hills home on Monday (Feb. 23) shortly after 6 pm.
Katherine, who was the adopted daughter of short and his late wife Nancy Dolman, worked as a social worker in Los Angeles.
Katherine earned a bachelor's degree from New York University in 2006 and a master's in social work from the University of Southern California in 2010, according to People. She interned at Public Counsel and trained at the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center before working more than four years at UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital and later at Camden Center.
Despite keeping a relatively low profile, she occasionally appeared at events with her father, including the afterparty for The Producers at the Hollywood Palladium, Bette Midler's New York Restoration Project Hulaween event, and the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in 2011.
