Christy Carlson Romano says she’s “grateful” to be alive after accidentally being shot in the face.

The former Even Stevens and Kim Possible star shared details of the incident and showed off the gruesome injuries on her Instagram account in a post shared on Saturday.

“Yesterday was my husband’s birthday and I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present,” Romano, 40, wrote in her caption. “There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face.”

Her husband, Brendan Rooney, acted quickly to get her medical attention and the actress was rushed to the hospital.

Romano says she was struck in five places, with one of the shots being less than an inch from hitting her directly in her right eye.

While most of her injuries were treated, Romano explained that a fragment remained lodged behind her eyes, which doctors have deemed “too risky” to remove for now.

“With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive. I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant,” the former Disney Channel actress added.

She also thanked the “amazing, superhero-like” first responders and the St. David’s South Hospital in Austin, Texas for treating her.

“But [I] got to say I got shot in the face and lived to tell the tale. Be grateful for every day,” Romano said in her video.
