‘The Last Jedi’ Novel Will Include Han Solo’s Funeral

Even though The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi were both very long movies, there was sadly no room in either film for Harrison Ford’s beloved Han Solo to receive a proper funeral. Solo dies at the hands of his son, Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens, but for the rest of that film and The Last Jedi, the Resistance spends most of its time running away from the First Order. Unfortunately that means there is never any time for an onscreen memorial. But according to Cinema Blend, the novelization of Star Wars: The Last Jedi will deviate from the film in that it will include Solo’s funeral.

In a recent episode of The Star Wars Show on YouTube, author Jason Fry and director Rian Johnson talk about the book and its inclusion of the funeral. They don’t go into any details about the funeral, who will be there, or where it will take place, but it’s definitely happening. Though Solo’s funeral wasn’t included in the most recent Star Wars film, his presence permeated the film in scenes between Leia and Luke.

The novel version of The Last Jedi will also have other things not featured in the film, including a scene where Luke tricks Rey by making her think the Ahch-To caretakers are being attacked, more scenes with Rose Tico and her sister Paige, and extra crazy things that happen at the casinos in Canto Bight. The book is hitting the shelves on March 6.
