The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards proved to be a game-changer with several historic wins throughout the night. And one actor hopes that his big win is just the beginning.

Early on in the telecast on Sunday, September 14, actor Tramell Tillman won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Seth Milchick on Apple TV+’s Severance. During his acceptance speech, he thanked his mother, whom he brought as his date for the evening. "You make time for what you want to make time for,” he said. “Do the work. Show up and most importantly—for the love of God—don't embarrass me in public. My first acting coach was tough, y'all, but all great mothers are."

This win was a major feat for Tillman, as it marked the first time a Black, gay man won the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award. Following the win, Tillman spoke to Entertainment Tonight, expressing optimism for the future of the film and television landscape.

“I hope I’m not the only,” said Tillman. “And I hope that this opportunity just continues to open doors for many people who look and love like me to be seen and appreciated.”

Tillman’s character, Milchick, is a manager at Severance’s fictional Lumon company — which offers a technology to allow its workers to become a completely different person in the office versus outside of work. Fans have lauded Tillman’s depiction of a villainous, yet complex, nuanced character.

This past summer, Tillman also starred alongside Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning. He is also set to star in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, scheduled to premiere next year.

Fans can also look forward to seeing more of Tillman as Milchick, as Severance was renewed for a third season back in March.
