In the early stages of her career, Jennifer Lawrence was known as a relatable starlet. Her quirky interview responses and love of pizza made her a beloved figure among fans. But over a decade after breaking through with films like The Hunger Games and Silver Linings Playbook, she admits that her public persona may have been a bit much.

In an interview with The New Yorker published Monday, October 27, Lawrence revealed that she cringes at some of the self-deprecating responses she used to give in interviews.

“Well, it is, or it was, my genuine personality, but it was also a defense mechanism,” Lawrence said. “And so it was a defense mechanism, to just be, like, ‘I’m not like that! I poop my pants every day!’”

She went on to call that past version of herself “annoying.”

“I get why seeing that person everywhere would be annoying,” Lawrence said. “Ariana Grande’s impression of me on SNL was spot-on.”

The impression in question took place on a 2016 episode of Saturday Night Live in which Grande, as Lawrence, appeared in a sketch parodying Celebrity Family Feud, with Kenan Thompson imitating Steve Harvey.

“They told me not to do a game show, but I was like, ‘Screw it, I can have fun. I’m a regular person,'” said Grande as Lawrence.

Thompson as Harvey replied, “You know, you say you a regular person more than any regular person I know.”

Elsewhere in the sketch, Grande doubles down on Lawrence’s “regular person” persona, saying “I’m just, like, a snackaholic. I mean, I love Pringles. If no one’s looking, I’ll eat, like, a whole can.”

Thankfully, Lawrence has no hard feelings over the matter nearly a decade later.

Lawrence stars in the upcoming psychological thriller Die My Love, based on the 2012 novel by Argentine author Ariana Harwicz. Die My Love premieres theatrically in the United States on Friday, November 7.
