Star Wars: The Last Jedi is making a considerable amount of money. $220 million, Varietyreports. Add in international grosses and that number expands to $450 million.
The film, which had the second-highest opening weekend of all time, opened at 4,232 sites in North America. The first-highest opening weekend of all time? That would be Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It did a tad bit better, bringing in a cool $247.966 million.
The only three other movies to make over $200 million during opening weekend includes 2015's Jurassic World ($208.8 million), 2012's The Avengers ($207.4 million), and the aforementioned The Force Awakens.
The Last Jedi, which was released on December 15, made around $45 million on Thursday night, $104.8 million on Friday, $64 million on Saturday and although the day is yet to be over, is projected to make another whopping $51.3 million on Sunday.
Variety quotes comScore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian as saying, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi posts the second biggest preview gross, the second best single day gross ever recorded and if that were not enough, the second biggest opening weekend ever in North America, joining the elusive $200 million club with a knockout of a movie that is proving to be both catnip to the critics and moviegoers alike over what has become the strongest moviegoing weekend of 2017."
