Quentin Tarantino is in the very early stages of developing a new Star Trek film at Paramount, Deadline reports.
The storied director has also reportedly enlisted the help of JJ Abrams. Before y'all get too excited, the pitch for the much-loved sci-fi series is, to reiterate, in the very early stages of development. No promises. A script has yet to be written. It's just an idea and a very expensive dream that has the potential of whisking us away from our often difficult and monotonous day-to-day lives to another galaxy on a swashbuckling adventure of interstellar proportions for two three or so hours.
The two directors are in the process of assembling a writers room.
The original Star Trek debuted in 1966 on NBC. It ran for three seasons. The latest television incarnation of the franchise is Star Trek: Discovery, which is currently running on CBS. The show premiered on September 24, 2017.
Tarantino's upcoming film, which will revolve around the Manson Family murders, is set to be released on the 50th anniversary of the deaths of actress Sharon Tate and four others in Los Angeles—August 9, 2019.
