Since the release of Straight Outta Compton, past allegations of abuse towards women by Dr. Dre have been put in the spotlight. The legendary producer has finally released a statement on the matter through the New York Times. Dre says there is no excuse for what he did back then, and that as a married man for 19 years, he's working towards becoming a better person every day. Apple also released a statement on the matter, saying that they believe Dr. Dre is a changed man and is sincere in his apology.
These troubling allegations, notably from Dee Barnes, against Dre came back to light after the release of Straight Outta Compton, when none of the situations were portrayed in the film. Barnes, who was the former host of the hip-hop TV program, Pump It Up!, addressed the film earlier this week, and spoke about how she's tried to move on from the 1991 incident when Dre assaulted her at a release party. Apparently, the assault was originally included in an early script of the film, but was cut out during production.
