BJ the Chicago Kid Shares Some Interesting Thoughts on Ghostwriting in Rap

BJ the Chicago Kid was a guest on The Breakfast Club yesterday, and while he talked about a number of topics, his thoughts on ghostwriting in rap were probably the most interesting. BJ, who has written for artists throughout his career, said that he doesn't get caught up with the negatives of the process, but simply thinks that rappers should try to make the best song possible, anyway they can. "In music, everybody got other people in the studio to help creatively," BJ said.

He went on to say that he's not going to reveal any names, but every artist he's ever worked with has had people in the studio to help out and make a great song. The list of artists BJ has worked with in his career is extensive, but includes Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Freddie Gibbs, Big K.R.I.T., Chance the Rapper, and more.

"Music is a collective effort to make something that can be a part of your freaking soundtrack for life." BJ said that he will never get mad at a rapper for trying to make the best song possible, even if that happens to come from someone else giving them a few bars.

The topic of ghostwriting is always relevant in hip-hop, but this year its been especially significant with the Drake and Meek Mill beef. It seems that BJ's comments are probably in the minority when it comes to ghostwriting, but it's always interesting to hear different perspectives on such a diverse, and hot-button issue.
