Young Thug and Rich Home Quan's brother have been going back and forth online over questions about the late rapper's loyalty.
Coming up together, Thug and Quan found fame as part of Rich Gang and released a number of collaborative hits including "Lifestyle," "Get TF Out My Face," and "Mamacita."
However, by 2015 the pair’s relationship began to fracture and their fallout went public, with each of them making comments about the other during shows, interviews, and on social media.
Thug took to his Instagram Stories earlier this week to express that he missed his friend, who died in 2023. He added that he "never switched" up on Quan, which ruffled a few feathers within Quan's camp, especially his brother, Rich Homie Dre.
After a number of people called Thug out for the post — including Rich Homie Dre, who suggested pride and ego were to blame for Thug and Quan's falling out — he responded by giving an example of an incident involving YFN Lucci in which he stayed true to Quan.
"I didn't fuck with lucci cause quan didn't," he wrote. "He felt like lucci did a song with a n***a that dissed him on the song. Wasnt my problem but was my brada so I was with him, then he stop fucking with me cause he thought he was bigger alone witch I had no problem with but now yall pussies wanna post bout a real nigga to quan."
He continued: "No n***a on this earth goin tell u I switched up on them n***a I'm the definition of loyalty, And almost every n***a I no has switched on me
at least once."
Thugger went on to claim that it was Rich Homie Quan who ultimately "went against" him. "@richhomiedre quan went against me my n*gga, how was it my pride? If you homie do some bullshit towards u u suppose to reach out first?"
What followed was a back and forth dispute over loyalty.
"When my boy was here n***s had a chance to converse with him!" Dre wrote, sharing an old interview with Quan. "That's all he wanted ! This was his last interview before he left! Now he's resting. & it's mad disrespectful to speak on someone who Reply to al't fred er speak for themselves."
In another post, Dre wrote: "People will always kick you while you are down or simply just watch you, they will never grab your hand and pull you up! but when you GET UP everyone wants to be ALL for you! Choose wisely the company you keep!"
In the midst of the exchange, Young Thug, who wishes he could have patched things up with Quan before his death, alleged his Rich Gang partner was going to take stand against him in his RICO trial the week he died.
"@richhomiedre tell them he was about to take the stand on me the week he died sense its a lie. I still luv em and wish he was here tho. I know I wouldn't have walked pass him sleeping on the floor," Thug wrote on IG Stories
Rich Homie Dre then questioned the claims, telling Thug he has "receipts," to which the "Best Friend" rapper replied: "I don't need a receipt sissy it's in blk&white R.I.P quan condolences to Mom Dad knows I love him like my own, and I have always been respectful and i was there for him when he went through what he went through."
Quan was on a shortlist of potential witnesses in the YSL trial and was subpoenaed by prosecutors. However, there is no evidence that he was actually set to be called as a witness. In fact, the day after Quan’s death was announced, Thug’s lawyer Brian Steel spoke to the situation in the courtroom.
“The prosecution said that Rich Homie Quan was coming to court and he would be testifying,” Steel said. “The prosecution did not call him. He was on a shortlist. He was under subpoena. I have a good-faith belief that the state did not call him because he gave exculpatory information about his relationship with [Young Thug].”
Young Thug followed up his post by putting Quan's death on the people around him, claiming it was they who were responsible for providing the Atlanta rapper with the drugs that ultimately killed him.
"All this because I made a post reminiscing about a person I spent a lot of my career with as a friend and brother," he wrote. "We all make mistakes but I'm not the reason he died, yall are. I always told him to stop drinking and stop popping pills. Yall made sure he had them when he woke up."
He added: "Sorry pops for this goofy shit but these niggas coming at me cause I posted your son in great regards."
