Yung Miami is glad to not be a City Girl anymore. In fact, she compared it to being in a relationship.

In a recent live episode of the Keep It Positive, Sweetie podcast with Crystal Renee Hayslett (around the 13-minute mark), Yung Miami opened up about how she was feeling about going solo from the City Girls duo that consisted of her and JT.

“New energy, a new frequency, just positive, just happy, and just focusing on me,” Yung Miami said about how she’s feeling. “I think that when you focus on yourself, you’re the best version of yourself.”

“Because when you’re in a group, it’s like being in a relationship,” Miami added. “Sometimes, y’all don’t always see eye to eye. And when you finally leave that relationship, you’re like, damn my hair is getting longer. Damn, my skin is glowing because you’re focusing on yourself. I'm focused on myself.”

In 2024, Yung Miami spoke to Complex about the end of the City Girls and how it seemingly stemmed from the commercial failure of their 2023 album, RAW. “The whole rollout for the album was bad because we was just in two different spaces,” Yung Miami said.

“You know, like, we older now and [JT] was doing her own thing. She on the West Coast, I’m in Miami. I’m doing my own thing,” Yung Miami added. “And I felt like naturally, when she doing her own thing, it just worked for her. And when I’m doing my own thing, it worked for me. But when we get together as a group, it just wasn’t connecting. It just wasn’t working no more. So I think we both was at a point where we were just like, ‘We probably should just do our own shit.’”

Weeks later, JT gave her perspective on the group’s split in a Complex interview, saying “I think it made sense for both of us and it was no hard feelings.”

“I’m like Tina Turner, I’m still a City Girl. I need my name,” JT continued. “That’s the biggest thing about me. I can’t ever get away from being a City Girl. It just made so much sense for the both of us in the direction that we were going and things that we were focusing on. There wasn’t no hard feeling about it. It was just like, we saw it coming.”
