London police don’t think that Taylor Swift’s upcoming shows in the city will be impacted by the alleged terror plot in Austria that led the singer to cancel her concerts there.
People reports that London’s Metropolitan Police Service said “there’s nothing to indicate that the matters being investigated by the Austrian authorities will have an impact on upcoming events here in London.”
Though they say the city hosts “a significant number of very high profile events each year with millions of visitors having a safe and enjoyable experience,” they’re working closely with security teams at each venue, plus “other partners,” to guarantee everyone’s safety.
Questions about the security of her upcoming five shows in London, which kick off on Aug. 15, stem from her canceled shows in Vienna on Aug. 8 and Aug 10.
The shows were nixed on Aug. 7 after Austrian authorities announced that they arrested two men in connection with a planned terrorist attack. One of the suspects was a 19-year-old Austrian citizen who had allegedly pledged allegiance to the Islamic State recently. A third suspect was arrested the next day.
According to local authorities, plans for the attack were discovered. During a search, police also found mysterious “chemical substances” that are reportedly being tested.
Authorities also revealed in a news conference that one suspect admitted to planning to “carry out an attack” at the venue using “explosives and knives.”
Following the cancellation, fans grouped together in Vienna to sing along to Swift’s music and trade friendship bracelets.
In addition to her wildly successful tour, Swift is having a huge moment on the Billboard 200 as well. Chart Data recently reported that she’s projected to end Ye’s streak of No. 1 albums on the chart.
Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department sold 141,000 units this week, compared to Ye and Ty Dolla Sign’s Vultures 2 that’s set to debut with 83,000 units.
