Playboi Carti’s next project is done, according to Swamp Izzo.
The veteran figure in Atlanta rap music revealed to Complex in a new interview that Carti’s next project, BABY BOI, is complete. “Ready. Done,” said Izzo when asked about it.
Izzo then clarified that it’s new music people haven’t heard before. “He got over 50,60 songs done,” said Izzo. “Completed to his liking? I couldn’t say. But they’re done.”
“If I was still in that mixtape era, we’d have BABY BOI one through nine,” Izzo added. “Fifteen years ago, we were so heartfelt on them exclusives. We couldn’t even sleep until we put it out before everybody.”
Carti teased that BABY BOI was ready literally the same day that he released his third studio album, MUSIC. He wrote “BABY BOI OTW” in a post flexing how all of MUSIC’s tracks had hit Apple Music’s charts.
Elsewhere in his interview with Complex, Izzo spoke about the reaction new listeners get when hearing his presence on Carti’s album.
“For the newcomers, the first time hearing it, it's like a shocker because it's not Carti in a sense. I come with a hip-hop feel. I come from the mixtape era, so I bring that element to it,” said Izzo. “A lot of samples—of course the Rich Kidz—and just a lot of yelling and excitement over the songs.”
“For the people who are just hearing it for the first time and are not aware of mixtapes, I think that it’s a shocker,” Izzo continued. “‘What is this? This is not what we accustomed to.’ As I look at the comments, they listen again and again. Then they get it.”
Izzo also explained how he linked up with Carti. “I've been knew him,” explained Izzo. “He's from the city. I knew him from his work. Personally, this is something he just always wanted to do.”
