5. Castlevania (2017-2021)
Castlevania is about Trevor Belmont, the last living member of a family of legendary monster hunters who goes against Dracula for overrunning the country of Wallachia with demons. The series adapts arcs and elements from the Japanese Castlevania series, specifically Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and Castlevania III: Dracula’s curse.
4. Record of Ragnarok (2021-2025)
Record of Ragnarok pits the greatest human warriors of all time against gods to determine the fate of humanity. That’s because the Gods’ Council, which assembles once every millennium, decided that mankind’s seven million years of terrible history give the means to justify their extinction. That’s when Valkyrie Brunhilde suggests giving humanity one last chance to prove their worth. With three seasons released, the anime is based on a popular Japanese manga.
3. Sakamoto Days (2025-present)
Sakomoto Days is about Taro Sakomoto, a legendary former hitman who left a life of murder to fall in love and have a family. Years later, his peaceful life is disrupted by former friends and foes. He now has to protect his family and the people he loves while adhering to a strict "no kill" policy. The series is based on a Japanese manga that’s still going on.
2. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (2021-2024)
Demon Slayer follows the journey of Tanjiro Kamado, a teenager who joins the Demon Slayer Corps to save his sister, Nezuko, who got turned into a demon when his family was slaughtered. His ultimate journey is to kill the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji. The show, which ran from 2021 to 2024, garnered critical acclaim.
1. My Hero Academia (2016-2025)/Jujutsu Kaisen (2020-present)
For her number one pick, Meg went with two legendary anime instead of one. The first is My Hero Academia, an anime about Izuku Midoriya, who dreams of becoming a superhero with powers in a world full of them. Since he was born without one, he has to do things differently — but he ends up in a high school for superheroes in training, anyway.
Jujutsu Kaisen is a show that follows Yuji Itadori, a teenager who swallows the severed finger of a powerful figure, Sukuna, and joins Jujutsu High to track down the remaining fingers. Based on a Japanese manga that wrapped in 2024, the anime has a prequel anime series, Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
