In many ways, Meek Mill and 6ix9ine couldn’t be more different. Meek is respected in rap and in the streets. 6ix9ine, meanwhile, is a rainbow-haired troll. Yet, somehow, someway, they found themselves screaming at each other outside of a nightclub recently, with 6ix9ine calling Meek a “rat.”

This altercation was the latest chapter in an ongoing beef that stretches back to 2018. For a while anyway, the conflict was mostly one-sided. Meek hasn’t vibed with 6ix9ine’s actions since the Brooklyn rapper got locked up and famously decided to tell on his associates, and he’s let his feelings be known, loud and clear. One thing that’s surprising to know, though, is that at one point, Meek even tried to offer 6ix9ine some advice.

Something tells us that this beef is far from over. To get you up to speed, here’s a breakdown of the two rappers’ feud, explaining where it came from and how it evolved into what it is today.

Nov. 28, 2018: Meek Mill speaks on 6ix9ine’s pending case: ‘Watch who you surround yourself around’

During an interview with Power 106 after 6ix9ine got locked up, Meek spoke on his situation, explaining that he initially wanted to advise the rapper about the way that he moved. “I used to always want to tell that kid, ‘You give out that certain kind of energy,” Meek said. “You give out that energy, and that energy actually comes back.”

“Having 50 people around you and two people got a job, it means nothing,” he continued. “It can get you in a lot of trouble that everybody don’t make it out [of]. Not saying that he won’t make it out of his situation, but it could get you in a lot of trouble that it’s hard to make it out [of].”

June 10, 2019: Meek calls out 6ix9ine for cooperating with authorities

After 6ix9ine worked with police and testified against his associates in a federal racketeering case, Meek went from a potential advisory figure to a disappointed OG. During an #AskMeek Q&A session on Twitter, when someone asked him how he felt about 6ix9ine, Meek was honest. “He’s a vicious kid 😰 started all that drama and start telling,” he said. In a later comment on Instagram, he elaborated on his initial thought: “What he did was wrong plain and simple…. trouble making…. clout chasing… Don’t follow that path young kings be great!”

Sep. 17, 2019: Meek Mill uses 6ix9ine to teach everyone a lesson

On the day that 6ix9ine appeared in court to testify against his Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods fellow members, Meek Mill gave followers on Twitter a few wise words about what people can learn from the young rapper’s situation. “69 going up in s federal courthouse today kids! Message of the day don’t be a Internet gangsta… be yourself! #cloutisnottheroute get money,” he wrote.

The Shade Room posted a new picture of 6ix9ine behind bars with his girlfriend Jade, and Meek Mill couldn’t waste an opportunity to crack on him. In the photo, 6ix9ine stood in front of a camera wearing all white. Meek took to the comments with just four words: “That witness protection drip.”

May 8, 2020: Meek and 6ix9ine finally go back and forth

During perhaps the busiest day of their ongoing feud (well, at least until their pre-Valentine’s Day run-in), the two rappers went back and forth just weeks after 6ix9ine was released from jail. Meek posted a video of him rapping about not snitching and also shared a series of tweets about the rapper and the latter’s plans to go on Instagram Live with fans for the first time since he was released from prison early. “I hope that rat going live to apologize to the people he told on or the victim….. Y’all forgot that fast a ‘rat’ killed Nipsey he wasn’t suppose to be on the streets! That’s the only thing ima day because he’s dead… left his baby mom and child like a coward as targets!” Meek wrote.

Soon after, 6ix9ine posted the tweet on Instagram and added his own caption: “Imagine having a new born baby come into the world & be pressed about a Mexican with rainbow hair.” Meek came back by calling 6ix9ine’s then-new song “Gooba” “trash” and dug into the rapper’s hide with a few sternly-worded tweets. “Now you just a informant behind a keyboard tryna troll families you ruined so it’s not gone hit the same… and by the way I’m doing this for my “sons” so you won’t be around to impact their lives ever!!!” Meek wrote.

Realizing that he might be giving too much attention to the rainbow-haired rapper, Meek Mill calmed down for fans later in the day and explained himself. “I’m sorry I lash out sometimes when I see people playing like that lol I been locked up too many times like a animal 🤷🏾‍♂️Sam change my passcode and don’t give it me nomore 😂😂😂😂😂😂,” he wrote.

June 5: 2020 6ix9ine calls Meek out for releasing a protest song but not actually protesting

Inspired by the turbulent social climate for Black Americans last summer, Meek Mill released a single, “Otherside of America,” that spoke to the treatment of Black people across America. The song showcased Meek’s commitment to the cause, but for 6ix9ine, it wasn’t enough of a show of solidarity. “If Kanye, who is way more famous than all these rappers is outside protesting with the people, why is the wannabe Martin Luther King Not but has no problem dropping a song,” he wrote. “BUT YOU THE VOICE FOR THE STREETS YOU FUCKIN CLOWN.”

June 11, 2020: 6ix9ine calls out a list of rappers, starts with Meek and his Roc Nation team

During an Instagram Live session right before the release of his Nicki Minaj collaboration “Trollz,” 6ix9ine presented a piece of paper to his viewers with a list of rappers’ names that he believed to be snitches. And guess who was at the top of the list? “I’m gonna start off with Meek, right?” said 6ix9ine. “And look, you need this clout. I’m not clout-chasing because I got more followers than you, I’m more popping than you. You know this. I’mma show you something real quick.” After this, he mentioned Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez, who cooperated with the U.S. Attorney’s Office following an arrest for conspiracy with intent to distribute narcotics. “You see Meek Mill right here with Desiree Perez,” he continued. “She is part of their prison reform with Jay-Z at Roc Nation. She is a executive at Roc Nation, but then you go saying we don’t fuck with rats. Your executive is a rat.”

Feb. 13, 2021: Meek Mill and 6ix9ine face off in a parking garage

According to reports, 6ix9ine and Meek nearly came to blows in a parking garage on Valentine’s Day weekend. Both rappers posted videos of the altercation that saw security attempting to keep a charging 6ix9ine away from Meek, who remained relatively calm throughout the situation. In 6ix9ine’s video that he posted on Twitter, he repeatedly calls Meek a “pussy” while pointing out the fact that he has security guarding him that he alleges are police. In Meek’s video, someone repeatedly calls 6ix9ine a bitch while the rapper is busy recording his own video.

After the footage got out, Meek hopped on Twitter to explain his side of the story. “The feds sent him to take me out,” he wrote. “He really waited outside the club for me. I thought I was dreaming.” He also alleged that he spat on 6ix9ine in a now-deleted Instagram post.

Later on, Meek gave some more details about the situation, claiming that the 6ix9ine surprised him. ”We did not run into each other I was getting in my car he just popped out…. we almost was smoking on that 69 pack for the love of a viral moment ….. he tryna get something locked up no cap lol,” he wrote.

6ix9ine, of course, wanted to expose Meek for having protection “Stop letting these rappers lie to you,” he wrote on Instagram. “They too tough for security. @MeekMill running around with police. This how you expose these fake gangstas.”
