Keri Hilson aired out her concerns about returning to the music industry in a new video series.

The singer posted three videos titled We Need To Talk that feature her talking to a second version of herself that the viewer learns is her singer side. In one of the videos, Keri speaks to her singer personality and explains her concerns about dropping music again.

“I just don’t want to put my life or my art in the hands of people who don't give a fuck about me,” she said. “The thing is, I don’t fear being human — I love being human in my own hands. I fear being human in their hands.”

Hilson expands on her hesitance by saying once and for all, she wants to be in the music industry.

“I want to be back in the game, I want to be at the top,” Hilson continued. “But, I still want to feel like I belong to myself.”

Hilson says that she doesn’t like the drama, clickbait, and sleep deprivation that come with being in the industry — but in another video, she expresses just how much she misses singing and releasing music.

“I miss singing,” said Hilson, prompting her singer personality to respond with, “You’ve been able to act and paint and garden and play with your plants and cook and I’ve been on the bench.”

Hilson’s videos series comes around the same time the singer shared a now-deleted post explaining why she stepped away from the music industry.

“I just wanted you to know I see & hear your requests, & carefully hold your love & support in my heart,” Hilson wrote. “My truth is, I’d love nothing more than to release this incredible music I’ve been ‘sitting on. There have been so many blockages I have constantly fought myself to not directly speak about.”

After expressing that she’s evolved and lost important people in her life, Hilson shared optimism that her growth will make her music better. “I will emerge from this cocoon just as beautifully as I have overcome the other processes in my life that were designed to grow for me!” she wrote.

Hilson’s last full-length project, No Boys Allowed, came out in 2010.
