Gillie Da Kid compared Drake losing in his feud with Kendrick Lamar to LeBron James losing an NBA Finals.
Gillie recently sat down with Shannon Sharpe on the Club Shay Shay podcast and had a discussion with the host about Lamar winning the beef.
Sharpe made it sound like Drizzy’s world was over, Gillie defended him by talking about the two artists’ back-and-forth in the context of the WNBA.
“You think he a bigger artist than Drake — so why does it matter?” said Gillie. “He lost a rap battle. That’s like LeBron James losing an NBA Finals. He’ll be cool — next year, he’ll be back.”
“Even if you look at their stream snow, even with (Lamar) winning five Grammys, his streams don’t match Drake’s streams.”
Gillie then did an impression of Drake to show how the rapper is so rich that he probably doesn’t even care about the beef. “You can’t bruise my ego — I got my own plane man,” said Gillie as Drake. “ I’m about to hop on my plane. Fuck my ego. I’ll buy a new one.”
To make a point about the importance of resiliency, Gillie brought up a classic rap beef. “Imagine if Jay-Z’s ego was destroyed,” said Gillie, referencing his spat with Nas. “He never would have been able to bounce back.”
Gille comparing Drake to James is interesting, considering the fact that they don’t seem to be on good terms because of the beef. After a Drake song surfaced that seemingly was directed at James and hinted at disloyalty, the rapper changed a lyric from a recent performance that mentioned James..
While in Perth performing the song “Nonstop” Drake changed the lyric that reads “How I go from 6 to 23 like I’m LeBron?” to “How I go from 6 to 23 but not LeBron, man.”
Shortly after Drake’s apparent slight to James, the legendary basketball player showed support for Lamar prior to his halftime show at Super Bowl LIX, writing on his Instagram story, "HE GONE KILL THAT 💩!!!! CAN’T WAIT.”
Last month, Charlamagne Tha God and Andrew Shulz discussed Drake and James’ rift and gave their opinions about the two’s relationship. Charlamagne referenced Drake’s Fighting Irish jersey tattoo that’s dedicated to James, and suggested that he might be “into people more than they’re into him.”
Back to Gillie. In his interview with Sharpe, he claimed that Noah Scurry, the Philadelphia teen basketball star who was fatally shot in January, was responsible for the death of his son, YNG Cheese.
