Earl Sweatshirt’s surprising new feature on D.C. rapper El Cousteau’s new song “Words2LiveBy” has the internet talking about what he’s saying and how he’s saying it.

Earl is best known for his unique style of rapping and beat selection that doesn’t sound like anything else you’d hear in the industry. So when he popped up on El Cousteau’s track that sounds like it’s perfect to get the party started, fans started taking notice of what he was saying.

One of the standout moments of Earl’s verse is when he pays homage to the current struggle that Gaza is going through with the line, “Free Gaza, we on the corner like Israelites.” He later raps, “It's raining missiles out of the sky” — seemingly another reference to the conflict.

Earl also hints at his mental state with the line “I'm not okay, but I'm gon' be all right” and shifts between tight wordplay and casual flexes. It’s that last part that has the internet wondering if Earl’s on the verge of switching up his style.

Here’s some of the best reactions to his new verse.

Prior to this, Earl’s last major drop was Voir Dire — his long-awaited joint project with producer The Alchemist.

The frequent collaborators, who once suggested that they dropped a secret album together under a take name on Youtube, hinted that they had a full-length project for quite some time.
