The artist formerly known as Kanye West is hinting that an alleged issue with Atlantic, home to Ty Dolla Sign and numerous other artists, is causing problems for the future of his and Ty’s two volumes of Vultures.
The second entry in the planned trilogy arrived this past weekend, five months after its originally announced release date. Just before the close of the album’s first week of availability on streaming services and through digital downloads on Ye’s YZY site, the 24-time Grammy winner shared a series of updates to his Instagram Stories focused on an alleged text message he received fro his manager, John Monopoly.
In it, the recipient of the message, presumably Ye, is being told that Monopoly just received a call from Julie Greenwald of Atlantic. This alleged call is claimed to have seen Greenwald telling Ye’s manager that she was fired, with her replacement opting to not give Ye and company "a grace period" when it comes to compensation related to both Vultures 1 and Vultures 2.
"She’s saying that if we don’t handle immediately Atlantic will issue takedowns for both albums," the text states.
Complex has reached out to Atlantic for comment. This story may be updated. Notably, Ye's IG appears to have since been deactivated.
While both Vultures albums have been released through Ye’s own YZY label, Ty, as mentioned above, is indeed still an Atlantic-signed artist on his own. The Too Lost and Create names mentioned in Monopoly’s screenshot-shared text, meanwhile, are both companies known for providing global distribution, publishing, and rights management services for artists.
The alleged text states that Greenwald was “fired” from her position at Atlantic Music Group, but that’s not how the situation has been reported in the press. At the top of the month, it was stated in a press release that Greenwald would be moving into a new role, while 10K Projects founder Elliot Grainge would take over the CEO position. Days later, however, it was reported that Greenwald was now expected to be leaving Atlantic next January.
For now, Vultures 1 and 2 remain readily available on all streaming services. Friday night, Ye and Ty are set to stage another listening event, this time in Salt Lake City.
