Wiz Khalifa is facing a potential nine-month prison sentence in Romania.

As first reported by Romanian news outlets, including Mediafax, Wiz, whose social media activity points to him being at a Gunna show as recently as this week, the sentence marks a partial overturning of a prior ruling that would have imposed a mere fine. The Dec. 18 decision also finds the regional court upholding an appeal previously filed by the government’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism.

The initial report, citing court minutes, says the sentence stems from the country’s laws on “unlawful possession of dangerous drugs for personal use.”

Complex has reached out to Wiz’s reps for comment. As of this writing, he does not appear to have publicly commented on the sentence. However, TMZ reports that sources close to the Multiverse rapper have suggested that this development isn’t necessarily as definitive as it may sound, adding “his team is currently in the process” of an appeal.

In October 2024, Wiz was announced to have been indicted on drug charges in Romania in connection with his performance at a music festival in the country in July of that year. During the festival in question, he allegedly possessed, and smoked, weed.

In a statement at the time, local officials said Wiz had been found to have “unlawfully possessed, for his own consumption, the quantity of 18.53 grams of cannabis and a cigarette containing cannabis.”

Wiz has already apologized over the non-incident, with fans immediately pointing out the inherent ludicrousness of laws, regardless of location, that aim to impose strict punishment for something so deeply innocuous.

“Last night’s show was amazing,” he said in an X update shared in July of last year. “I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time.”
