Tory Lanez shared his own take on Playboi Carti's hit "Magnolia" Wednesday, despite producer Pi'erre Bourne apparently telling Lanez' team he was unable to provide the instrumental for his use. In a tweet early Thursday morning, Bourne shared a screenshot of a text message exchange, adding "this ain't no joke."

Lanez' "Magnolia (Swave Session)" instead uses an imitation version of the original "Magnolia" beat:

Lanez' take on "Magnolia" has received backlash, with Carti fans referencing Bourne denying his request for the official instrumental and noting the cover art's similarity to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Friday-era releases. Comments on the track's SoundCloud upload range from "fire" to "flush this down the toilet."

On Instagram, Bourne further criticized Lanez' "Magnolia" take:

In an interview with Complex's Ross Scarano in April, Carti said he's already focused on what's next following the release of his eponymous debut mixtape. "The new sauce," Carti explained. "I gotta sit back and listen to a bunch of shit, or watch a bunch of shit. Movie clips. Watching shit on the plane." Carti specifically referenced inspiration he's been getting from The Lost Boys, noting he liked "everything" about it. "That's me, that's Playboi Carti, a vampire on a dirt bike," he said. "Flying. Laughing and shit. The fangs, my grills. Long hair, dreads. Rock star shit."
