Tim Westwood has been charged with rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault.

The Metropolitan Police Service announced the charges against the BBC Radio 1 alum on Oct. 9 in connection with alleged assaults in London and Stroud.

Westwood is charged with four counts of rape, nine counts of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault. Per police, the charges stem from allegations made by seven different women.

“It takes courage to come forward and report allegations of this nature,” reads a statement from Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, in part. “The women who have done so have put their trust in us and we continue to provide them with all available support.”

Furphy added that the investigation “remains open” and urged “anyone who has been impacted by this case” to come forward.

The alleged assaults detailed by police date back to 1983. That year, the once-popular DJ is accused of indecently assaulting “a 17-year-old girl” in the Fulham area. Most recently, Westwood is accused of sexually assaulting “a woman in her 20s” in the Finchley area.

“Our prosecutors have established that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings,” Lionel Idan, Chief Crown Prosecutor, said Thursday. “The Crown Prosecution Service reminds everyone that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.”

Westwood is set to make a court appearance in the case on Nov. 10. In 2022, he faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. As reported at the time, he denied the accusations.
