For her first new album since 2016's well-received A Seat at the Table, Solange is aiming to touch on everything from jazz to electronic while rattling trunks.

In a new interview with the New York Times, the as-yet-untitled album is described by writer Ayana Mathis as being in the "final touches" phase and a release "imminent this fall." Sessions for the new album took place in New Orleans, Topanga Canyon, and Jamaica. "There is a lot of jazz at the core," Solange said of the songs. "But with electronic and hip-hop drum and bass because I want it to bang and make your trunk rattle."

Comparing the process to that of A Seat at the Table, which Solange says she constantly refers to as her "punk album," the Saint Records founder confirmed that editing will be going on until the last possible minute. The aimed-for results are described as "warm…fluid and more sensual" than A Seat at the Table.

Earlier this year, during a chat with Billboard, Solange revealed that she was working on new music at the time with the Internet's Steve Lacy. "It has been really wild," she said in March when asked how writing was going. "The house that I was just recording in [in] Jamaica, I stayed there for four days. And then the last day, the owner was like, 'You know that mural that's downstairs in the spare bedroom that the engineer booth is in? Joni Mitchell painted that.'"

For A Seat at the Table, Solange received both her first Grammy nomination and win for the single "Cranes in the Sky."
