Snoop Dogg has offered a reaction to the recent news of Drake’s potential legal battle against UMG and other parties in connection with Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” While Uncle Snoop didn’t have much to say, his laugh and initial request to move on to the “next question” proved fairly revealing.
The topic was broached during the Missionary artist and Complex cover star’s new chat with Bootleg Kev, with focus first placed on the use of Snoop’s sonic likeness in Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle” diss from earlier this year.
“I don’t wanna be in nobody’s shit, man,” Snoop, who says he didn’t know in advance that Drake would be utilizing an AI-generated emulation of his voice, said. “I like being in my own shit. … See, I’m such a big figure. I’m Uncle Snoop. I’m accessible to everybody so everybody feels like they can because I don’t have too many parameters when it comes to me.”
Snoop continued, “But when it comes to beef, that’s a real parameter that I do have. I don’t get in nobody’s beef. I’m usually the one who ends the beef.”
When it came to Kendrick and Drake, whose beef dominated music news coverage (and the charts) for 2024, Snoop says he’d rather allow “two men to get an understanding” on their own instead of inserting himself into the mix.
“They don’t need me to take sides or jump in,” he said. “I’m from the West so my heart lies on the West.”
Kev then brought up Drake’s UMG filings, at which point Snoop laughed while lighting up.
“Next question,” he said. “You know, on the West, we hold court in the streets. That’s just what we call it.”
While often referred to as “a lawsuit” on social media, Drake’s actions thus far do not constitute that. Instead, the back-to-back filings are examples of pre-action petitions. Shawn Setaro recently gave a proper breakdown of what this means, as seen here.
