The interstate transportation of a stolen motor vehicle charge against Pop Smoke, who was tragically shot and killed in February, has been dropped.
This week, the formality was confirmed in court documents. While the judge involved must still sign off following the government’s move to dismiss the January 2020 indictment, the charge has now been effectively dropped.
The Brooklyn artist, whose Meet the Woo 2 was released in February, was shot and killed at a home in Hollywood Hills that same month. "Our prayers and thoughts go out to his family, friends and fans, as we mourn this loss together," a Republic Records rep said when first confirming the news.
In late March, a posthumously released video for "Shake the Room" featuring Quavo was released.
As revealed in an interview with Complex's Eric Skelton last week, Steven Victor (whose stacked history includes titles like COO of G.O.O.D. Music and Def Jam's A&R boss) is currently working diligently on both a posthumous Pop Smoke album and a documentary.
"I'm working really, really hard on this Pop Smoke album," Victor, who also managed Pop Smoke, said. "And I'm working on a documentary for him, too. And his foundation. I'm just really focused on making this label like the next Jimmy Iovine and Interscope."
