The inaugural Something in the Water went down this past April and boasted performances by SZA, Missy Elliott, J Balvin, Lil Uzi Vert, and more. JAY-Z also popped up for a surprise "Frontin" run-through.

Pharrell, who earlier this month brought his The Black Godfather soundtrack cut to the Late Show stage for a very-worth-revisiting performance, recently spoke with Complex in the Hit Factory studio about his unique approach to creativity and the power of SoundCloud.

"You gotta find something that moves your emotions—not just occupies your mind or bides your time," Pharrell said when asked to reveal "a secret" to others who have turned their personal passions into a sustainable lifestyle. "You've got to find something that you emotionally connect with. I wish that for every child."
