Olivia Rodrigo’s SOUR, her studio debut, turns five this year. But first, “Drivers License,” Rodrigo’s 2021 breakout hit, gets to celebrate its own anniversary.
As part of the fifth anniversary celebration, the track, originally released in January 2021, is hitting red translucent 7-inch vinyl. Side A includes a version of the Hot 100 chart-topper by David Byrne, while Side B is reserved for a live rendition of Talking Heads’ 1983 hit “Burning Down the House” featuring Byrne and Rodrigo together.
In a message to fans on Thursday (Jan. 8), Rodrigo, a three-time Grammy winner, announced that she was launching a series of “reimagined” takes on SOUR tracks performed by some of her favorite artists.
“David is nothing short of a legend and I actually cried when I heard his version of this song,” she said of Byrne’s contributions to the anniversary proceedings.
In a separate post, Rodrigo credited the Dan Nigro-produced song with having “changed my life in ways I still can’t totally wrap my head around,” adding that she’s “forever grateful” for this moment along her larger artistic journey.
