Nipsey Hussle's Family to Continue His Plans for Community Foundation

Nipsey Hussle's family is working to ensure his legacy of community betterment initiatives continues following his tragic murder in Los Angeles last month.

Prior to his death, Hussle had already given back by donating shoes to elementary school kids and repaving school basketball courts, as well as working closely with the Destination Crenshaw beautification team. He reportedly owned a total of 14 businesses, including the Marathon Clothing shop on the corner of Slauson and Crenshaw.

According to a report from TMZ filed Wednesday, Hussle was also "in the process" of starting a foundation aimed at improving the quality of life for young people in his community. The plan was to assist area schools in renovating playgrounds and furthering STEM programs for students, as well as to help with the updating of public parks in and around the Crenshaw District.

Moving forward, Wednesday's report adds, Hussle's family intends to make the foundation a "top priority." First up, the Best Rap Album nominee and celebrated philanthropist's relatives will reportedly be "addressing" the foundation's need for a name.

Among those who paid their respects to Hussle on the day of a Staples Center memorial event was none other than former POTUS Barack Obama. In a letter to Hussle's family and friends last week, Obama spoke highly of his commitment to his community and urged young people to find inspiration in it.

"I'd never met Nipsey Hussle, but I'd heard some of his music through my daughters, and after his passing, I had the chance to learn more about his transformation and his community work," Obama said.
