Megan Thee Stallion will return to the Broadway stage this week after undergoing a medical evaluation. In a statement shared with Complex on Wednesday (April 1), a spokesperson for the artist, who stars in a current production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical as Zidler, confirmed that she had been “discharged” from a local hospital.
“On Tuesday evening, Megan was transported to a local hospital to undergo a medical evaluation after experiencing concerning symptoms,” the spokesperson told Complex. “Doctors ultimately identified extreme exhaustion, dehydration, vasoconstriction and low metabolic levels as the cause of her symptoms.”
The spokesperson continued: “Megan has since been treated, discharged and is now resting. Megan is incredibly grateful for the prayers and well-wishes from her supporters and is looking forward to resuming her role as Zidler on Moulin Rouge! on Thursday.”
In a previous statement shared with Complex, a rep for Megan said that she had “started feeling very ill” during Tuesday night’s performance, at which point she was “promptly transported to a local hospital.”
According to reports from those in attendance on Tuesday, the incident occurred mid-show. It wasn’t immediately clear when, or if, Megan would return. With Wednesday’s statement, however, any such speculation has been put to rest.
In addition to the statement from a spokesperson, Megan herself has also since spoken out.
“Last night was a real wake-up call for me,” she said on Instagram. “I’ve been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty, and my body finally said enough. It honestly scared me. I thought I was gonna faint on stage. I really tried to push through my performance but I just couldn’t. Hotties, I wanna be real with y’all because you mean everything to me and I hate letting y’all down.”
Megan continued: “I just need one day to rest, reset, and take care of myself the way I should have been. I’ll be right back on that stage Thursday stronger, clearer, and ready to give you 100 percent the way you deserve. Thank you for always riding with me and loving me through everything.”
Megan’s turn as Zidler marks her Broadway debut. The production, staged at New York’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre, sees Baz Luhrmann’s Oscar-winning 2001 film being reimagined through a Broadway lens. In Baz’s film, the role of Zidler was played by Jim Broadbent.
A note shared to the show’s official site notes that Megan will also not be performing on May 2.
