Mario says “it’s all love” between himself and Monica despite recent social media speculation.
As you may or may not recall, a recent stop on Monica and Brandy’s The Boy Is Mine Tour saw Mario being brought out as a special guest. During his time in front of the audience, Mario thanked Brandy by name, calling her “one of the greatest to ever do it,” declining to specifically mention Monica.
While some subsequent social media activity from Monica herself has since further fueled speculation among fans, Mario opted to clear the air once and for all during his appearance on The Breakfast Club on Wednesday (Nov. 19). As the Mood Swings artist explained, he was brought out during Brandy’s set, not Monica’s.
“First of all, Monica is amazing,” he said deep into the new episode. “I love Monica. … It’s all love, like, that’s gang. I think these narratives are just crazy.”
Mario went on to reiterate that there is “nothing” to the chatter of any rumored intention behind his onstage remarks.
“I’m happy to see both of them on tour,” he added. “Even when I posted when I was on the stage, I congratulated both of them. I gave them both flowers. People just be taking shit out of proportion, man. Stop trying to make me an R&B villain, man. Y’all don’t want the villain. I love ‘em both. Shoutout to the queens.”
Charlamagne tha God then suggested, perhaps jokingly, that Mario should lean into this supposed “villain” personality, prompting the singer to detail why he has no interest in doing so.
“I don’t wanna be dark,” he said. “I don’t wanna go there. … What if I like it?”
