Lil Yachty Tells Akademiks to 'Stop Drinking' After Claim About Playboi Carti Inspiring Him to Change His Sound

Lil Yachty has urged Akademiks to “stop drinking” following a recent claim the streaming personality made regarding Playboi Carti.

In short, as seen in the clip below, Akademiks claimed that Yachty told him Carti “made him change his entire sound” while they were working together in the studio. Yachty, of course, recently earned acclaim for his Let’s Start Here album—which notably saw him venturing into new territory as an artist. But Akademiks has it wrong when it comes to his influences, Yachty swiftly pointed out.

“Lil Yachty in my studio told me—this was before he dropped ‘Poland’ and ‘Strike’ and all this other shit,” Akademiks said in the clip in question. “He said he’s in the studio with Carti and Carti made him change his entire sound. Facts. Once I heard that, I was like, damn. Carti’s like that?”

In response, as seen below, Yachty pointed out his past remarks about Tyler, the Creator.

“u r so insane, I didn’t tell u this at all,” Yachty said on Sunday. “Stop drinking bro. I said tyler encouraged me to take that route. Wtf.”

It’s unclear when, exactly, Akademiks was referring to in his quickly questioned remarks. Yachty, however, has publicly praised Tyler surrounding the Let’s Start Here rollout. Speaking with Billboard earlier this year, for example, Yachty called Tyler “the reason I made this album.” According to Yachty’s comments at the time, Tyler told him to “do it, just go for it.”

But speaking of “Poland,” Yachty recently performed the addictive track six times in a row during a festival set in Gdynia.
