When describing his unique and ultimately genre-defining sound in a 2017 interview with XXL for the publication's The Break series, Lil Peep named two specific artists as key influences: Makonnen and Fall Out Boy.
"I grew up listening to a lot of emo music, a lot of rock music, a lot of rap music, a lot of trap music, funk, everything," Peep said at the time. "One of my favorite hip-hop artists is Makonnen. One of my favorite bands is Fall Out Boy. You put those two together and that's Lil Peep."
Now, the late emo rap pioneer has a collab with both. Stream "I've Been Waiting," a song off Makonnen and Peep's previously revealed collab project, below.
Makonnen and FOB bassist/lyricist Pete Wentz joined Zane Lowe Thursday when premiering the latest posthumous Peep release, described by Makonnen as a "dream collaboration" for all involved. "We'd connected a little bit," Wentz said of Peep, whose first posthumous album—the critically acclaimed Come Over When You're Sober Pt. 2—opened at No. 4 back in November. "I don't wanna oversell. We talked on Instagram and stuff, and I was a big fan."
In a statement to Complex Thursday, Makonnen said he felt that adding Peep's "heroes" to the song would be a great tribute to his late friend and collaborator. "When I called Pete he immediately said yes, and it came together very quickly," Makonnen added. "I'm really excited to share this with the fans."
