Lil Nas X and John Mayer Perform "Old Town Road" on 'Current Mood'

Lil Nas X has made his plans for additional "Old Town Road" updates quite apparent, even telling a fan over the weekend that the ultimate goal is to arrive at an iteration of the viral country trap hit in which at least 10 horses are hanging out on the cover. As X continues down that path, a quick stop by John Mayer's Instagram Live series has resulted in a spur-of-the-moment rework complete with some soft drum rolls and fresh instrumentation.

X was the guest on the most recent episode of Mayer's Current Mood, his Instagram-housed modern talk show that's previously welcomed guests like Halsey and Maggie Rogers. Enjoy a fan-shared rip of the "Old Town Road" performance below:

"Old Town Road" has thus far received formal remix treatments from Billy Ray Cyrus and Diplo. Arguably the most replayable rendition, however, came in the form of CupcakKe's "Old Town Hoe." The Billy Ray Cyrus edition is currently enjoying its stay at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

The track's official video is expected soon, as is another remix featuring fellow country trap pioneer Young Thug, whose "Family Don't Matter" is always worth a revisit.
