Hackers have infiltrated the systems of Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks, a law firm that counts a number of high-profile artists and musicians as clients.
The firm's site is down as hackers claim to have 756 GB of data including contracts and personal e-mails related to clients, per Page Six's report late Tuesday. The hackers are said to be demanding $21 million as they threaten to make public "personal details" of multiple clients including Lady Gaga, Elton John, and Barbra Streisand.
"We can confirm that we’ve been victimized by a cyberattack," a rep for the firm said in a statement. "We have notified our clients and our staff. We have hired the world's experts who specialize in this area, and we are working around the clock to address these matters."
Additional public figures represented by the firm (either now or in the past) are said to include Drake, U2, The Weeknd, Lil Nas X, LeBron James, Mike Tyson, Priyanka Chopra, Robert De Niro, Nicki Minaj, Bruce Springsteen, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Spike Lee, and more.
The Daily Beast's report adds that the firm has also represented companies including HBO, EMI Music Group, MTV, Playboy Enterprises, Spotify, and others.
Sources said Tuesday that the FBI has opened an investigation. Furthermore, Page Six noted, clients have been informed of the situation. The hackers believed to be responsible are known as REvil or Sodinokibi. Back in January, they reportedly hit foreign exchange company Travelex.
