Kanye West Is Reportedly Using One of His Tweets To Disprove Tidal Lawsuit

Sometimes, all it takes is a tweet. Kanye West is reportedly pointing to his widely shared tweet describing his 2016 album The Life of Pablo as a "living breathing changing creative expression" as proof he didn't mislead people who apparently took the time to file a lawsuit about the album's post-release alterations, TMZclaimed Tuesday.

West added that the original February 2016 version of The Life of Pablo was only ever available on Tidal. While the class action suit alleged that listeners were manipulated into "paying for Tidal's rescue," West says the "creative expression" tweet proves otherwise. The suit also claimed that the estimated value of "personal information" from new subscribers amounted to an $84 million payday for Tidal. West, citing the tweet, wants the suit dismissed.

The unconventional Pablo release strategy inspired a great deal of discussion about the potential to shake up the album format, even post-release. The album, which earned West multiple Grammy nominations, never received an official physical release. That distinction helped earn the album the honor of becoming the first streaming-only album to receive a platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.

West is currently at work on new music, though a release window remains unknown. Def Jam CEP Steve Bartels toldVariety in June that West was currently "working," but couldn't confirm whether we'd be getting anything new this year. "He's always working, so maybe so," Bartels said. "It's never something we're pushing — it's always led by the creative side."
