Kanye West’s Instagram Account Restricted Again, Meta Confirms

The artist formerly known as Kanye West’s Instagram account has been restricted for a period of 30 days.

A spokesperson for Meta, the parent company of Instagram, confirmed the restriction in a statement to Complex on Monday. Although specific posts were not highlighted in the statement, the rep noted IG had “deleted content” from Ye due to said content having marked a violation of the platform’s policies.

“We deleted content from @kanyewest for violating our policies and placed a restriction on the account,” a Meta spokesperson told Complex via email. “We may place restrictions on accounts that repeatedly break our rules, for example, we may temporarily restrict them from posting, commenting, or sending DMs.”

Ye appears to have addressed the 30-day restriction in a post shared to Parler, the right-wing social media platform he was recently announced to be purchasing (Candace Owens’ husband, George Farmer, is the CEO of Parlement Technologies).

This isn’t the first time Ye has seen his Instagram account restricted. Amid his (apparently ongoing) series of remarks widely called out and shut down as anti-Semitic earlier this month, he faced similar restrictions on both IG and Twitter. While apologies from Ye regarding the string of remarks condemned as anti-Semitic have popped up in recent days, they have routinely been delivered alongside reiterations of the very same rhetoric for which he’s been criticized.

As for the oft-discussed smallness of Parler’s reach, Fortunenoted in a recent report that data pulled from the Data.ai service showed that the so-called conservative platform had averaged just 725,000 monthly active users in the U.S. for the first half of 2022. By comparison, that number was at more than five million in the first half of 2021. Notably, Parler was in and out of headlines during that period in connection with the fatal Capitol riot.
