The Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance categories at the upcoming Grammys could see the inclusion of a Kids See Ghosts cut.
Kanye West's team reportedly submitted the Kid Cudi and Ty Dolla Sign collab "Freeee (Ghost Town Pt. 2)" for both categories, at least according to a report from TMZ. West's team has also reportedly submitted for the Producer of the Year category. The screening process is believed to have been completed, meaning these entries will now enter the first round of voting.
Much will be said of the Best Rock-related categories, because apparently some people still worry about things like genre and categorization, but why put so much energy into that? "Freeee (Ghost Town Pt. 2)" is indeed a rock song.
Previous winners in these categories include Sting, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, U2, Paramore, Jack White, and last year's Best Rock Song victor Foo Fighters.
West's most recent Grammy wins went down in 2013 by way of Watch the Throne and Cruel Summer. Last year, he was nominated in multiple categories for The Life of Pablo. All told, West—who's presently busy rationalizing reckless MAGAing—has bagged 21 Grammy wins.
"We culture," West famously told Zane Lowe during the Yeezus era. "Rap is the new rock stars. It's been like that for a minute . . . It's been like that for a minute, Hedi Slimane! It's been like that for a minute. We the new rock stars and I'm the biggest of all of them!"
Noted fighter of foo Dave Grohl later echoed this sentiment. "To me, there is nothing more punk rock than having [Kanye West] stand on stage in front of 100,000 people after thousands of people petitioned for him to not be there," he told the Sun back in 2015 when West was tapped to headline Glastonbury.
