Jermaine Dupri Says Drake Has a 'DJ Alliance Like No Other Artist' He's Ever Seen

Dupri said it's a "superpower" for artists.

Jermaine Dupri is in awe of the support Drake’s music has cultivated among DJs.

In a series of X updates, the So So Def founder dubbed this “a DJ alliance,” while pushing back against those who understood his assessment.

“That boi Drake got a DJ alliance like no other artist I’ve ever seen,” Dupri said on Tuesday to an immediate wave of responses, many from those who missed his point. “But most of you n***as probably don’t understand what I’m saying cause uon be outside.”

Later, Dupri doubled down on his description of Drake’s “DJ alliance” by describing his own anecdotal example, notably one involving “Not Like Us,” Kendrick Lamar’s Grammys-sweeping Drake diss.

“I see people saying DJ alliance is crazy, so let me tell y’all what I saw,” he wrote. “I walked in the club and the DJ was shouting out a group of people from the west coast and they must’ve been like ‘play some west coast shit’ and before he dropped 'Not Like Us,' he said ‘I might get in trouble for this’ and I was like, whoa!”

From there, Dupri made sure to correct those who were misinterpreting his comments as somehow being critical of Drake. Instead, per Dupri, he was simply trying to illustrate the love DJs have for Drake's music.

Dupri has had a lot to say recently. He commented on En Vogue member Dawn Robinson saying she’s living in her car and questioned “the goal of being an independent artist” in today’s industry climate.

Meanwhile, his would-be Verzuz against Diddy was brought up during Nelly’s recent appearance on Drink Champs.

As for Drake, meanwhile, released a joint album with PARTYNEXTDOOR, which opened at No. 1 in February, plus teased a “next chapter” that “may leave you feeling uneasy.”
